Feedback at 5:00- Underage Drinking
Earlier this week on 9&10 News, we told you about a new study suggests that movies showing alcohol consumption might encourage kids to binge drink.
Researchers asked more than 16,000 students in six European countries about how often they consume five or more drinks in one sitting.
The scientists gave the kids a list of 50 movies, with a varying number of drinking scenes, and asked them which movies they watched.
The study linked the amount of alcohol consumed in the films to the prevalence of binge drinking among the 10-to-19-year old participants.
And the researchers say that's true even when you take into account other factors, such as family drinking patterns and a teen's level of rebelliousness or sensation-seeking.
Underage drinking leads to about 5,000 deaths a year in the U.S., according to the National Institutes of Health.
What steps do you take to prevent underage drinking with your children?
