Governor Snyder Signs Bill Giving Counties Option to Eliminate Road Commissions, Grand Traverse County Reacts

Governor Snyder signed a bill into law today giving counties the option to eliminate their road commission. The control of the roads would go to the County Board of Commissioners. The Grand Traverse County Commission says they don't see a move like this saving them any money, so they wouldn't be interested in pursuing it. Commissioners say they bill was geared toward many road commissions downstate who struggle to find a balance between their county board, and road commissioners.

Right now, Grand Traverse County's Road Commissioners are appointed rather than elected. The County Commission says it's a system that seems to be working.
