Decision Made on Snowmobiling and Hunting in Huron-Manistee National Forests
The U.S. Forest Service has announced its decision on a proposal to ban gun hunting and snowmobiling in parts of the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
With the decision the Forest Service will continue to allow gun hunting on previously designated areas of the forest.
Snowmobilers will still be allowed to snowmobile on designated trails within the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
Forest officials say they will re-examine what areas are designated as Primitive and Semi-primitave.
The debate began in 2010 when a judge ruled that the forest had to reevaluate their environmental impact plan for 14 sections of the forest.
A downstate man who owns property near the forest was unhappy about the noise.
