UPDATED: Mackinac Bridge Back Open After Accident
5:20-UPDATE: The Mackinac Bridge Authority has reopened the bridge for traffic. 4:45- UPDATE: The driver of a tractor-trailer is dead after his truck crossed the center lane of the Mackinac Bridge and struck a car heading in the opposite direction. Michigan State Police say the occupants of the car were not injured. The truck was southbound near the middle of the bridge around 2:00 this afternoon when it struck a northbound car. It is unclear at this time if the driver of the truck died from the crash or from a health issue suffered before the wreck. 3:00- UPDATE: The Mackinac Bridge Authority has confirmed that an accident this afternoon has left one person dead. The bridge is expected to be closed until 5:00 PM on Friday while officials investigate the accident. An official with the Bridge Authority says that a semi-truck headed southbound crossed into a north bound lane and hit the guard rail three times, also hitting a northbound car. The bridge is currently under a wind advisory. The Arnold Ferry Line tranported the Glen Lake Football team from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace free of charge so they could still play their game this evening.
