Rain Returns This Afternoon, Heaviest Overnight

*Chance of Severe Weather This Afternoon *Heaviest Rain Expected Overnight/Friday Morning *Winds Will be Strong & Gusty Tonight and Friday _______________________ A strong cold front approaching will act to do many things–it will bring us rain, wind, and much cooler air tonight through Friday–but it will also “kick out” the stubborn low pressure system that has brought us countless days of clouds and periods of rain. This rain has already moved in with showers, but will be more widespread than just the showery-type precip that we've seen recently. Temperatures today will be in the 63-68 degree range, with SE winds 5-15mph. Winds will pick up significantly into this evening, with cloudy skies and rain expected overnight. There is also a risk of thunderstorms this afternoon, and some could be severe. The line is generally south of a line from Traverse City to Grayling to West Branch. Winds tonight will be N 10-20 mph with gusts even higher. Lows will be in the low 40's to near 50's lakeshore. *A Storm Warning is in effect over Lake Michigan 2pm today through 8am Friday–this means that sustained winds of up to 41 knots are expected from the North, with gusts up to 52 knots. Waves can be up to 22 feet. Tomorrow brings more rain, wind, and finally cooler air. It will certainly feel chilly, especially with the dampness of the air. High temperatures tomorrow are only expected to reach the middle 40's to low 50's. Rain breaks up as the cold front passes, and nearly clear skies will be seen overnight Friday into Saturday. Sunny skies finally take back over the picture as the system finally breaks down and passes us. Lucky for us, the high pressure moving in is strong, so we'll keep the sunny skies around for at least a good few days. Unfortunately, warm weather won't accompany that sunshine, at least at first. Saturday's highs will still be chilly, in the 47-54 degree range, but continue to gradually warm through Sunday. By Monday, we'll even see a few low 70's. -Meteorologist Katie Dupree
