Plane Clips FedEx Truck and Crashes Near Grand Rapids

Authorities say a small plane clipped a FedEx semi truck-trailer and crashed along U.S. 131 this morning.

The pilot was killed in the crash which happened near Plainwell Municipal Airport in Allegan County.

An airfield officials says the wing of the plane clipped the FedEx truck as the plane was preparing to land.

The pilot was the only one on board and was flying from the Holland area.

State Police have identified the pilot as William Beswick, from Holland. The plane was an experimental Thorp T18 single engine twin seat, built in 1978.

Michigan State Police say the driver of the truck was not injured.

Northbound lanes of the highway were closed after the crash.
