Stearns Park Beach in Ludington Adds Patrols, New Features to Keep People Safe

Those in charge of a popular Northern Michigan beach are trying to make it safer for the people who use it. In 2009, the city of Ludington decided to eliminate the lifeguard positions at Stearns Park Beach. But last summer, three people drowned in that area. Now police are trying to make the beach safer with a new patrol system. They've also added new signs, life rings, and an emergency call center. 9&10's Evan Dean spoke to the city manager about the beach improvements and has more on why the beach is safer this season.
