Police in Traverse City Crack Down on People Drunk in Public

Businesses downtown have problems when people drink too much; and now, the city and police are hoping a $50 fine will stop it all. Police say it's up to the City Commissioners to pass the ordinance, and you can't get arrested for being drunk in public, but you can still get in trouble. Some think it's good for the safety of their customers. Police hope the fine will curb this kind of activity and make downtown a fun, safe place to be. Some bar-owners tell us it could hurt their business, other critics say it infringes on their rights. Police say they'll enforce this by looking for the obvious signs that shows someone is drunk, like slurred speech, a staggering walk, and blood shot eyes.
