Two Apartment Buildings Damaged by Overnight Fire in Traverse City

A raging apartment building fire in Traverse City forced people out of their homes in the middle of the night. So far we know two buildings have been evacuated. One is destroyed, the other has minor damage. Firefighters were called to the Alpine Park Apartments on the corner of Airport Access and Munson shortly after 3 a.m. Flames were shooting through the roof, and it was fully engulfed in minutes. Fire Chief Jim Tuller tells us the fire may have been started by a lightning strike during the severe storms overnight. Several people living in the apartments report hearing a loud crash before the fire started. The Red Cross is helping about seven families find somewhere to stay while things get sorted out.
