Mackinac County To Form Victim Services Unit, Looking For Volunteers

The Mackinac County Sheriff is looking for 15-20 volunteers to form a Victim Services Unit. The volunteer advocates help in any situation by comforting a victim and/or their families, while law enforcement continue their investigation. They will help people dealing with a fire, drowning, suicide, deadly accident, or anything other kind of traumatic circumstance. The advocates are required to go through 20 hours of initial training by the Michigan Sheriffs' Association. If you are interested in joining the VSU, you can get an application at the Mackinac County Sheriff's Office at 100 South Marley St., in St. Ignace. After successfully passing the criminal background check, the Sheriff's Office will notify you. An informational meeting will be held the middle of August for anyone who is interested.
