Delays on Harrietta Bridge Construction Frustrating Locals in Wexford County

A bridge is out and people in one Northern Michigan community are getting frustrated. Crews began working on the bridge on West 30 Road near Harrietta back in April. But construction came to a halt weeks ago. The bridge, a frequent path into the city of Cadillac, was supposed to be completed two weeks ago. The Wexford County Road Commission says the contractor has failed to supply a bridge deck with the proper chemical treatments. The contractor, Davis Construction Company, says the chemical they originally needed is no longer available. In the meantime, drivers have to detour on a gravel road that adds about six miles to every trip in to Cadillac. The contractor told us that the bridge deck is treated and will be shipped within the next few days. But the Road Commission has not gotten a confirmation from them yet. As for locals… they said they'll believe it when they see it. 9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Tyler Hampton spoke to the Road Commission and locals affected by the project, they have the story.
