Manistee Mayor Hopes Marina Upgrades Will Help Economy

After months of delays, the Manistee Municipal Marina is now officially open for business. City officials were on hand for a dedication ceremony Wednesday afternoon. They hope the upgraded facilities will bring more people downtown. The marina upgrades and new building cost nearly a million dollar. The building replaces an older one that had been around since the 1970s. The new facility will offer more comfortable lounging areas, upgraded bathrooms, and laundry facilities. The marina remained open during construction but some say businesses still noticed a drop in customers. The dedication was supposed to happen Memorial Day weekend but got delayed because of flood damage. Finding human remains also delayed construction. Crews found a jaw bone buried underground. 9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Derek MacIntyre have more on the new upgrades to the marina.
