Brothers Help nab suspected Scrap Metal Thieves

State police in Gaylord have two suspected scrap metal thieves in custody thanks to two sharp-eyed brothers. Marcus and Earl Kwapis spotted suspicious activity at the Hans Family Camp in Montmorency County Friday, and after a speeding car came out of the camp property, they called their cousin, Sergeant Troy Huff, who was off duty with the state police. Sergeant Huff pursued the fleeing car, and used his personal vehicle to block their escape. He arrested the suspects and held them until Montmorency County Deputies arrived to take them into custody. Police say the suspects confessed to several area breaking and enterings, for scrap metal. Both suspects are from Gaylord, one on parole and the other with multiple felony convictions in California and Michigan.
