Beach Bums score early and often to hold off Gateway

TRAVERSE CITY – Chase Burch had a two-run single, and J.T. Hall hit a three-run homer in a five-run first inning, as the Beach Bums took a lead they would not relinquish, beating Gateway for the second straight night, 14-11. Traverse City would build a 10-2 lead after three innings, thanks to a two-run triple from Jason Codiroli in the bottom of the third, but Gateway mounted a comeback in the middle innings, and pulled within two runs twice during the contest. The Beach Bums tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth inning, and Scott Mueller came on to close things out in the ninth, as the Beach Bums improved to 7-10 on the season, and 3-2 at Wuerfel Park. For Hall, his first inning home run was his seventh of the season to lead the Frontier League. He's also tops in the Frontier League with 21 RBIs. The two teams will conclude their series Thursday evening at Wuerfel Park, before River City comes to Traverse City for a three-game set over the weekend.
