Alert Employee Foils Counterfeit Money Scam in Petoskey

An alert employee foiled a counterfeit money scam when the cash just didn't feel right. It happened at a store in downtown Petoskey Monday. Police say the woman told the man she needed real money when he tried to pay with four fake $10 bills. The man did end up buying a few things with real cash, then left. Police say counterfeit money can often be found by texture alone. State police say the man was 40 to 50 years old with a pony-tail and a cane. They say if this happens to you, keep the money and call 911.
