Hagerty Breaks Ground For Expansion, More Jobs To Traverse City
The first shovels just started digging what should be a big boost to the Traverse City area. Hagerty Insurance is expanding in Old Town, and that means a few hundred more jobs. It all started with the construction of the Old Town Parking Deck. Hagerty couldn't expand until the city built a public parking deck nearby to be partially used by Hagerty workers. They had a big part in the building the deck in the first place, donating the land and promising jobs. Now, they're making good on that promise. “We’re days away from starting construction on a nearly 60,000 square foot project, it will give us room for up to almost 250 more employees here in Traverse City and we’re very excited about it,” said CEO McKeel Hagerty. The bottom floor of the new building will also include retail space. “The more people that work downtown the more they’re buying into the retail, they’re buying into the restaurants and they feel ownership to their community,” said Bryan Crough, DDA Executive Director. Jennifer Profitt and Photojournalist Jeremy Erickson were at the groundbreaking, they have the story.
