Traverse City Commission Approves Tunnel
People in Traverse City could soon be strolling through a new tunnel. The city commission voted six to one in favor of a project that would build a new pedestrian tunnel underneath Grandview Parkway. The tunnel would connect the Warehouse District to the open space used for many festivals and events. Those who support the idea say the tunnel is needed for public safety. Those opposed to it say the tunnel will not be used enough and that the location is not ideal. The commission changed the proposal so the city and the Downtown Development Authority have to approve the final design. The developer of nearby hotel is willing to put up more than 100,000 dollars toward the project. 9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Corey Petee have more on the tunnel.
