Fire Department, Dive Team Practice Emergency Ice Rescue in Clare County

The water is cold – so the rescue better be quick and efficient. That's the goal today in one Northern Michigan town during an ice rescue training session at the Mystic Lake Campground in Lake. The Garfield Township Fire Department teamed up with the Clare County Dive Team to practice handling emergency situations out on an icy surface. Firefighters re-enact the emergency by sending out rescue personnel on a piece of equipment to save a victim submerged in water. Once obtained, the on-shore firefighters then rope the victim onto land. The fire chief says its important to make sure his team is prepared in case this type of emergency happens. The two crews in Clare County hope to continue this type of rescue training in the future.
