Grand Traverse County Commission On Aging Millage On Ballot

The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging is looking to pass a millage in next week's election. If the millage isn't passed, their services to seniors will be canceled. To continue services, it will cost $25 per year per $100,000 home value. The commission provides services for seniors so they can live at home safely, such as yard work and emergency assistance funding. In 2009, the commission helped over 1,700 seniors with such services. “Not only do we go in and do the service, but we also we’re kind of a contact with these people, so they might not have any family member so we might be their only contact with someone for a week or two weeks,” said Georgia Durga, Director of Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging. Jennifer Profitt and Photojournalist Justin DePrekel have more on this story.
