Businesses Receive U.S. Grants

Two northern Michigan businesses are using grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to produce very different things. Douglas Valley in Manistee received a $150,000 grant to develop a line of hard ciders, wines and goat milk made with organically grown ingredients. Sietsema Farms in Howard City will receive a a nearly $15,000 grant to use turkey litter to create electricity. The grants are part of the $22.5 million of federal money given to recipients in 45 states.
