Boil Water Advisory: Businesses Scramble to Find Clean Water
With a boil water advisory in effect, the search for clean water is on for people in one local city. The city sent out a warning this afternoon after samples showed bacteria-contaminated water. Coliform was found in two separate samples from the southeast corner of town in the city of Manistee. Coliform contamination is known to cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. While the city says you should not use any water unless it's boiled, some people aren't taking any chances. Not only are they heading out to find clean water for their homes, but businesses in the city of Manistee are scrambling to find clean water for their customers. The city believes the contamination was internal, and not the result of an outside source. It reminds people to continue boiling their drinking water until new, clean samples come through. However, it says the water is OK to bathe in. 9&10's Cali O'Rourke and photojournalist Joel Deaner were out in Manistee Friday, they have more details on how businesses are dealing with the contaminated water.
