BREAKING NEWS: Finalist Chosen To Be Next TCAPS Superintendent

Northern Michigan's News Leader is following breaking news. The three-month long search for a new Superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools is all but over. Tonight, the TCAPS Board of Education voted to extend an offer of employment to finalist candidate, Stephen Cousins. In the next few days, the board will be in touch with Cousins to make it official. Cousins is the current Deputy Superintendent of Reeths-Puffer Schools in Muskegon. Back in January, Jim Feil announced his plan to retire at the end of the school year. Since then, board members asked the public to help cultivate a job description to see what they want in a superintendent. The process included a national search and an extensive review of more than twenty applications. Eventually, the board brought in five candidates to interview. Then it narrowed the field to two: Cousins, and Dr. Thomas Goodney, from Columbus, Ohio. If Cousins accepts the job offer, the board hopes he will start July 1st.
