UPDATE: More information surrounding Deputy Arrest

Michigan State Police Troopers arrested Grand Traverse Sheriff Deputy Alan Needham after a reported domestic assault. Police say they were dispatched to a domestic violence call around 12:30 a.m. this morning. The criminal complaint says Troopers found Needham lying in his driveway and that he made a motion towards a loaded semi-automatic pistol slide. MSP said Needham yelled “you're going to have to kill me” and ran to the rear of the home where he was caught. According to Troopers, Needham struck the arresting officer in the face and head with a closed fist. That Trooper had to be treated for injuries during the altercation. He is accused of several crimes, including domestic violence towards his family, having a firearm while drunk, and assaulting a police officer. Troopers are handling the investigation. The deputy will be suspended without pay for now. The arrested deputy is a 35 year old man who has spent 12 years with the sheriff's office.
