Coast Guard: Drinking and Boating a Dangerous Combination
Boaters are pouring into Northern Michigan to take advantage of a beautiful holiday weekend, but the United States Coast Guard urges them to leave the alcohol behind. The Coast Guard reminds boaters that, just like on the road, they need designated drivers on the water. They say drinking and boating accounts for one-third of all boating-related deaths. Starting this weekend, police agencies will be hitting the waters, while the Coast Guard man's the skies. The Coast Guard reminds boaters to always have life jackets on board for everyone, and a cell phone or marine radio on deck, and to tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return. Erika Waddell and photojournalist Justin DePrekel have the story.
