First Look at Homes Destroyed by Meridian Fire
9&10 News got a first look at some of the areas that suffered the most damage caused by the Meridian Fire. The U.S. Forest Service is now saying 13 homes were destroyed by flames. Two others were damaged, along with 40 out buildings. M-18 reopened Friday for the first time since the fire broke out on Tuesday. Hundreds of evacuees were allowed back home to see the damage. The Meridian Fire is still burning in parts of South Branch Township in Crawford County. It's burned about 8,500 acres and is now 90 percent contained. The U.S. Forest Service says it started by someone burning leaves. 9&10's Alex Jokich and photojournalist Michael Bulthuis have more details after spending the day on scene and seeing the destruction firsthand.
