DNRE: Power Plant Permit Denied

The Department of Natural Resources is not going to allow a new power plant to be built in Presque Isle County. It's a story Northern Michigan's News Leader has been following for more than a year and a half. The DNRE denied a permit for wolverine power cooperative to build a new 600 megawatt power plant, fueled mostly by coal in Rogers City. The state says the company didn't prove it would meet future supply needs and said the proposed plant would increase electricity rates. Governor Granholm also says the decision will protect Michigan's environment from pollution fueled by an unnecessary plant.
