6,000 Acre Fire in Crawford County

People as far away as Ludington told 9&10 News they could see the gigantic black smoke cloud looming over the area, ash even fell on Cadillac. 9&10 News was on the scene of duel wildfires in Crawford County all day Tuesday. The fire located south of Luzerne was at 6,000 acres Tuesday night, burning 6.5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. The Forest Service says four structures are burned, but 9&10 News does not know if these are homes or businesses. 40 Firefighters will be on hand Tuesday night to put out the flames and it doesn't look like the work will stop any time soon. People ten miles north and west of the intersection of M-18 and F-97 were told to evacuate. The Forest Service tells 9&10 News the helicopters were sent home Tuesday night, but will be back Wednesday morning. Firefighters say with the helicopters they were able to save many homes that were threatened. 9&10's Cali O'Rourke and photojournalist Joel Deaner followed this story from the beginning, they have the latest developments.
