Missaukee County Deputy Charged with OWI

The Michigan State Police arrested a Missaukee County Deputy this morning on drunk driving charges. Police say Sgt. Steven Schryer's car went off the roadway near Lucas Road in Missaukee County's Richland Township. Police then believe the car entered a ditch and struck a utility pole. After the single car accident, police say Schryer fled the scene. During the course of the initial investigation, Deputies learned the vehicle may belong to a Sheriff's Office employee. With this knowledge, the department turned the investigation over to the Michigan State Police. Troopers arrested Sgt. Steven Schryer, a 12 year veteran of the Sheriff's office, on charges of operating while intoxicated and failure to report accident to fixtures. He was later arraigned in Lake City District Court and a bond of $350 was set. The Missaukee County Sheriff's Office has suspended Schryer without pay pending the outcome of this case. Northern Michigan's News Leader will have more details tonight on 9&10 News at 5pm and 6pm.
