Grand Vision Gets First Major Financial Backing
The Grand Vision has received its first major financial backing. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has awarded nearly $1.2 million to support the Grand Vision. The grant will be used to help re-engage the public and bring their vision of the future to life. The money will be split between Rotary Charities of Traverse City, the Michigan Land Use Institute and the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments. Each will have a different goal — for instance, the Council of Governments will help small communities transform themselves, with a focus on infrastructure improvements. A portion of the money has also been set aside for a Citizen Action Expo on May 10th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City. There will also be events planned in other parts of the five-county region and online to get everyone involved. Erika Waddell and photojournalist Justin DePrekel have the story.
