Senator Jason Allen To Announce Bid For Rep. Stupak’s Seat

State Senator Jason Allen says he is running for Congress. Allen told The Associated Press on Sunday he'll announce his candidacy for the 1st District seat Monday, in a series of appearances in the sprawling northern Michigan district. He's seeking the Republican nomination to succeed Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak, who is retiring after 18 years in office. The 47-year-old Allen is serving his second term in the Michigan Senate after serving two terms in the state House. At least four other Republicans are in the race. Allen recently moved to Alanson from his longtime home in Traverse City so he would be a resident of the district. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
