Getting Back to Hockey’s Roots Out on the Pond

The UP Pond Hockey Tournament kicks off Friday with 132 teams competing out on Moran Bay on Lake Huron. It's the fourth year for the tournament that brings more than 600 players to St. Ignace during what would otherwise be a pretty empty weekend. About a a hundred volunteers pitch in their time to make the tournament a success, from organizing teams to making and maintaining the 24 rinks. Teams are made up of six players and they play 4-on-4 with no goalies. There will also be a game featuring Red Wings alumni Friday at the St. Ignace Civic Center with the proceeds going to local youth hockey. Kaz and Corey hit the ice with a few players Thursday morning.
