A Vision for the Future of Manistee
Keeping tourism alive in Manistee is just one part of a grander vision people have for the area. Thursday night, city leaders and the public met to talk about their vision for the future of Manistee. From tourism to business development, all ideas were welcome. Jobs and the economic development of the area were hot topics. “One of the things our table was discussing was trying to get more businesses in the area, jobs,” Manistee Mayor Ilona Hayden said. “And having those types of high quality jobs plays into things, like having a downtown with not as many vacant store fronts,” Travis Alden, director of the River St. Downtown Development Authority, said. “It plays into having less vacant homes… and those kinds of things.” The city will take the ideas and create a strategic plan for Manistee.
