Cheboygan Hospital Holds Forum About Cuts
Nearly 200 people came out tonight with concerns about cuts at their local hospital. Cheboygan Memorial Hospital recently announced they'll be ending obstetrics services at the end of March, and have already closed the urgent care clinic. Tonight the hospital held a community forum to explain their decisions. The board says they need to bring expenses in line with revenues, which are way down. That's largely due to the poor reimbursement rate for Medicaid. The hospital says demand for both obstetrics and urgent care services have gone down in recent years. With the reductions, comes the loss of around 40 jobs. The cuts will save the hospital around $4 million annually. Erika Waddell and Justin DePrekel have the story.
