Father Fred Big Winner In G.T. Band Grants
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians announced almost a million dollars in grants made possible by slot machine revenues. The Father Fred Foundation has been awarded $75,000 to help with its utility shut-off program. That's 22 percent more than the Band was able to give them last year. Leaders say the grant will be a big help against the $450,000 they usually spend on the program, and will help around 300 families this year. Father Fred is just one of 49 area grant winners. Other include the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau and Goodwill Industries.
