Big House to host Spartan, Wolverine hockey match

Michigan will host Michigan State in their second outdoor hockey game, this one at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. The schools on Thursday announced the “Big Chill at the Big House” will be played Dec. 11. The Spartans and Wolverines played to a 3-3 tie in 2001 before 74,544 at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. That contest, promoted as the “Cold War,” set a North American record for attendance in the modern era. Michigan Stadium, however, will seat about 108,000 after renovations. The 2001 meeting also was billed as the first outdoor college hockey game in the modern era. The “Big Chill” will be the fifth outdoor game in Division I men's ice hockey. Michigan will play Wisconsin on Feb. 6 in the Camp Randall Hockey Classic in Madison, Wis. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
