Get Involved With ‘Road to Recovery’

A national program called 'Road to Recovery,' is making life easier on cancer patients living in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society and War Memorial Hospital provides a ride for patients from Sault Ste. Marie, or anywhere along the I-75 exit in the U.P., to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey for radiation treatments. That same van also brings the patients back home. It is a program run completely by donations and volunteers. The patients who have to travel five days a week for treatment say the program has made the process a lot easier on them. The hospital says they're always in need of money for gas, and maintenance for the van. They are looking for a new van that provides better gas mileage. In addition, they say volunteer drivers are also needed. If you would like to help, or if you are a patient looking for a ride, call Theresa Mills, Volunteer Coordinator for War Memorial Hospital, at (906) 253-2775.
