QB Devin Gardner says he’s enrolling early at UM

Devin Gardner says he's enrolling in classes this week at Michigan. The standout quarterback from Inkster High School attended Sunday's basketball game and sat next to coach Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez said six recruits have already enrolled, and said another player could join them. The embattled coach also said linebacker Brandon Smith is transferring to another school and he doesn't know what the NCAA's timetable is in its investigation of his program. By graduating high school early, Gardner will have a chance to work out with the Wolverines this winter and practice with them during spring drills. The dual-threat QB will get a chance to compete with returning starter Tate Forcier and Denard “Shoelace” Robinson for playing time in the fall. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press.
