Firefighting Improvements Mean Clare-Area Insurance Rates May Improve

It looks like the hard work of a Northern Michigan fire department will finally pay off in more ways than one. The Clare Fire Department has spent the last ten years making improvements to increase its protection class rating. They did it with more training, newer equipment and an improved city water system. The fire chief says these efforts help make the community safer, and the better rating means area businesses may see lower insurance rates. “The improved rating is going to reduce insurance preminums. Not in all cases, and not as much for the homeowner, but for the commercial and industrial customers in the community,” James Chapman, Clare Fire chief, said. Still, the fire chief recommends homeowners ask their insurance carries if they can get a break on their rates.
