Special Police Teams Coming to Northern Michigan

A federal grant is funding two State Police Hometown Security teams. These Michigan State Police troopers will be dispersed throughout the Upper Peninsula and northern part of the lower peninsula. The 12 extra officers will concentrate on high-traffic and high-crime areas, making their presence known. They will also help with special events or major emergencies. These teams will help other state, county and local agencies with whatever comes up. Most law enforcement officials agree any extra help is welcome, especially at a time when many are working with less. A spokesperson from the Michigan State Police says with the extra money they will also be able to bring back 28 laid off state police troopers. 9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Aaron Smith have more details.
