Leaders at the Grand Traverse County Health Department just learned funding cuts won't be as deep as they expected. Officials feared they would have to reduce services or even close the county's Youth Health and Wellness Center. With funding only being 10 percent less than last year, they'll keep it open. The health department is still looking for grant opportunities to make up for the lost funding, but officials say they're happy to be able to continue serving the more than 1,000 young people who depend on the center. The health department also received a grant to open a similar clinic in Kingsley that will operate three days a week.
