IRS Wants New Requirements For Tax Preparers

The IRS is trying to crack down on tax preparers. A recent study found that more than 80 percent of Americans pay someone else to do their taxes. Now the IRS is proposing new registration, education and testing requirements for anyone who is paid to do taxes. H&R Block is in favor of stricter standards to keep tax preparers ethical. They also say new requirements would give tax payers more confidence in the tax system. The only tax preparers exempt from the proposed requirements are attorneys, CPAs and enrolled agents who are active and in good standing with their licensing agencies.
