A Kalkaska County jail inmate had a taste of freedom tonight, but is now back in custody. The sheriff's department says the 51 year old inmate was in a minimum security cell block when where he was serving a 93 day sentence when he escaped by a fire exit door. He was recaptured 32 minutes later. Sheriff David Israel believes the escape was planned. He says the inmate was tracked in fresh snow for several blocks, entered a home and left. Nearby residents saw him, and thought he was acting suspiciously and called 911. Their actions helped in his recapture. He's now in maximum security.
