Skin Cancer Screening

A free skin cancer screening clinic will be offered Monday, May 9 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Munson Medical Center, Conference Rooms 11 and 12. Dermatologists Joan Griner, M.D. and Raymond Deam, M.D., of Associates in Dermatology of TC, will conduct the clinic. The American Cancer Society reports that more than 1 million cases of non-melanoma skin cancer are diagnosed each year. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, was diagnosed in about 140,900 cases of skin cancer in 2010. Skin cancer symptoms include: § Any change on the skin, especially in the size or color of a mole or other darkly pigmented growth or spot, or a new growth. § Scaliness, oozing, bleeding, or change in the appearance of a bump or nodule. § The spread of pigmentation beyond its border such as dark coloring that spreads past the edge of a mole or mark. § A change in sensation, itchiness, tenderness, or pain. No appointment is needed for the screening. Munson Medical Center Center is located at 1105 Sixth St. in Traverse City.
