Deadly Ohio State Fair Accident Caused By ‘Excessive Corrosion’

Posted: Updated:

We now know what caused a carnival ride to take a deadly turn at the Ohio State Fair.

The ride's maker blames "excessive corrosion" inside one of the beams.

The corrosion thinned out the beam, leading to the collapse.

The Fire Ball ride had been inspected the morning of the accident and a few times before the fair opened.

Analysts say the corrosion's location inside the beam was part of the problem.

Eighteen-year-old Tyler Jarrell was killed when the ride collapsed on July 26.

Seven others were injured.
