Great Lakes Wetland Cleanup Project Receives $375,000 in Federal Funding

Wetlands in the Great Lakes will soon be undergoing a major cleanup.

The Great Lakes Commission says they are restoring wildlife habitats in Michigan and Ohio that have been degraded by toxic pollution.

The commission received $375,000 in federal funds for the project.

They will use the money to excavate and dispose of sediments at Black Creek Marsh in Michigan and restore part of the Maumee River in Toledo.

Both have been pinpointed as "high concern" areas for the Great Lakes region.

They're being targeted for special cleanup work because of long-standing, severe contamination.
