State police say the three vehicle crash was a result of a car driving north bound in the south bound lanes on US 131.

Another driver, an Illinois man was taken to Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital and then was later taken by helicopter to another hospital in Grand Rapids, where he died.

The driver and passenger in the third vehicle were not hurt in the crash.

Both cars are destroyed, with heavy damage to the front end of each car

One car is a jeep, the other is so badly damaged it is unrecognizable

We have yet to receive word on the passengers of the vehicles or their condition

A truck driver says a wrong way driver likely caused the crash.

"The vehicle ran me off into the shoulder and then ran the vehicle behind me off toward into the median and they were just full out speed, I mean they were going highway speeds. It's not like they were acting like they were lost," Tim Letts said.

The accident took place right across the street from the Pine River School.

We talked to the Pine River superintendent who says no students or teachers from the school are involved.
