Manton Community Hosts Dinner To Help Family Injured In Car Crash

Posted: Updated:

A Northern Michigan community is helping support a local family after a tragic accident.

A month ago, Jon Gilbert and his two children, Eli and Kiah, from Manton were in a car accident.

Both Jon and Kiah were flown to Grand Rapids Spectrum hospitals.

Eli was sent home the day of the crash, and Kiah just arrived home recently.

Jon has since been sent to a rehabilitation hospital, but is expected to return home next week.

It has been a long road for the family, with more obstacles still ahead.

The community is now gathering behind them and having a sloppy joe dinner to help with expenses.

“This weekend on Saturday night from five to eight, there will be a sloppy joe dinner, as well as a bake sale, silent auction, there will be a live auction for our larger items,” says Bethany Blaszak, a co-organizer for the dinner. “It's been absolutely overwhelming to see this community come together and give whatever they can. They've been so generous giving their time and their money, and the kind words. It's been beautiful.”

The dinner is at the Manton Schools 5th Street Multi Purpose Room.
