Deadly Storms, Wildfires Plague Tennessee, Alabama

Posted: Updated:

At least eight people are dead after a series of deadly storms and wildfires plague parts of Alabama and Tennessee.

Emergency officials say three people were killed and one person was critically injured when a storm hit their mobile home in Alabama.

And storms in Tennessee have claimed two lives, bringing the death toll from the severe southern weather to five.

And at least three more people are dead and more than a dozen are in the hospital after the worst wildfire to hit Tennessee in a century began scorching its way across the Tennessee.

About 14,000 people have evacuated the Gatlinburg region as the spreading fire moves through the area, destroying hundreds of buildings in its path.

A drought and hurricane-force winds are fueling the flames, and causing them to spread quickly.

Right now, fire crews aren't sure when people evacuated from their homes will be able to return.

A curfew has been put in place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for those currently living at emergency shelters.
