The common milkweed plant is something we usually think of in the summer, when it’s a source of food for the monarch butterfly.

But in the fall, their silky pods dry up and split open.

For tonight’s Sights and Sounds, photojournalist Stephanie Adkins shows us the beauty of the milkweed seeds blowing in the wind.
