Charlevoix plane crash survivor sees first college game action

Posted: Updated:

A two-time plane crash survivor took another inspiring step forward in his basketball career this weekend.

Austin Hatch stepped on the floor for the first time as a Michigan Wolverine Sunday in Rome, Italy.

The Wolverines were on their way to blowing out the Perugia Select Team 99-60.

He did not record any stats, however he told the team's website after the game that he "really feels like a Michigan basketball player now."

Hatch has survived two plane crashes in his life including one that killed his father and stepmother near Charlevoix in 2011.

It left Austin in a medically induced coma, but the Wolverines kept their scholarship offer waiting for him until he recovered.

That was the first of a four-game exhibition tour for the Wolverines through Italy.
